Unusual in being a pioneer County Librarian trained in municipal libraries, he is likely to be remembered mostly for initiating the service (very late for metropolitan London) at ST MARYLEBONE and for the vigorous reorganization at NOTTINGHAM. His publications include the pioneer County library services (1922) and Public library finance (1938). He was also responsible for the chapter on Northern Scotland in the LA's 1938 Survey of libraries.
